Getting dressed for work during the summer can feel like an onerous task. You’d love to throw on flip flops and a short dress, or jeans and a t-shirt, but unless you work from home, these aren’t viable options for office attire.

Don’t make attire mistakes at your office job. Check out these nine summer work outfits to stay cool and professional as the temperature rises.

1. Jeans and a Blazer

This is just one of many layering ensembles both men and women can don over the summer months. A blazer leaves you ready for last-minute client meetings while dark wash jeans refine the ensemble. Complete the look with a button down, or, if it’s casual Friday, a crisp white t-shirt to keep cool.

2. Dressy Denim

For summer work outfits that perfectly balance casual and professional, dressed up denim has you covered. While traditional jeans aren’t always appropriate in the office, a chambray shirt with a dark wash or black denim can put together an office-appropriate outfit. A printed shirt and oxford shoes add a sharp edge.

3. Short Sleeves and Chinos

Chinos work with everything. They’re available in a variety of colours and are a lighter option to wear during the warm months. Men can pair their crisp chinos with a solid polo or a patterned short-sleeve button down. You’ll look office appropriate without appearing too laidback.

4. A Luxe Tee with a Midi Skirt

If the midi skirt isn’t your first thought for bottoms, it will soon become your summer wardrobe staple. A tailored midi gets a fresh update with a luxe tee, further complimented by either pointed flats or mules. If your office is more conservative, swap the tee for a silk blouse to create the same polished effect.

5. Throw a Cardigan Over It

Cardigans aren’t just for the in-between seasons. This go-to item works with everything in your wardrobe for the summer. From a sleeveless dress to a silk blouse, the cardigan is a light layer that can be worn as needed to make a chilly air-conditioned office instantly more comfortable.

6. Culottes and a Silk Blouse

Summer work outfits are designed to feel light and airy. Tight-fitting trousers are the last item any woman wants to wear before heading out in the heat. Culottes are flattering, wide legged pants that provide ample breathing room without looking baggy.

Create a fluid, sophisticated line by pairing these pants with a short-sleeve blouse and sandals.

7. A Shirtdress

At first glance, a shirtdress may seem too casual, but paired with slingback pumps and a belt, it becomes an effortless outfit to carry you through the entire summer. Whether it’s a solid hue or striped pattern, this dress creates easy sophistication and gets the office wardrobe seal of approval.

8. A Linen Suit with Suede Sneakers

This outfit might be tricky at first glance, but it’s ultimately successful when done right. Linen is a fabric designed to keep you cool, and if you have to wear a suit every day, you might as well wear a breathable material. A polo or button-down shirt can work underneath, while suede sneakers complement the outfit, creating a balanced look that’s cool and stylish.

9. Monochrome Everything

Whether you wear one colour or various shades, a monochrome outfit is a uniformed look that’s free of distraction. Cream blouses and blazers with white bottoms create an immaculate look while differing beige tones in suit jackets and shirts add texture and polish.

It’s important to dress appropriately for work. These summer work outfits have you covered in both sweltering temperatures and breezy air-conditioned spaces.
