Let us state it right at the beginning. Interviews are stressful. You know you want the job - that is why you have agreed to a meeting with the recruiter. The company knows they want a good candidate - and has been impressed by the types of skills you have on your resume. Still, how well you are able to talk in an interview decides whether or not you'll be considered for the next round.

Only 2% candidates are selected for interviews - meaning your on-paper skills are deemed to be extremely relevant to the job position for which you have been called to interview. It also means that you have been screened on phone and the recruiter has found your answers convincing enough to schedule an interview with you. What happens during the interview is, thus, critical to your chances of being considered for the position further or not.

Talk Patiently During An Interview

Never forget that it is a professional setting. You may be feeling on top of the world, but make sure your answers are courteous and relevant to the topic at hand. At the same time, low self esteem won't take you anywhere. If you assert something regarding your past experience, stand by it. No one wants a team member who cannot substantiate one's own claims. Answer each question to its merit and keep it succinct. Respect the interviewer's time.

 

Body Language During an Interview

You might deem it cliche, but never forget that over 50% of what you say is communicated via your body language. Keep your posture upright during the whole conversation. Listen intently to what the interviewer has to say, and express genuine interest in the information you receive. 

 

Close the Interview Confidently

Ending on the right note is even more important than to be able to begin on one. Make sure you always have a light, open-ended question up your sleeve. A slight inquiry regarding the office culture, usual office attire or the best way to reach the location never hurts. It also conveys the interviewer that you feel comfortable in your skin being present there.

These tips are only as helpful as your chances of landing an interview. Make sure you are following the best practices to create a resume that converts. Remember, interview is a foot in the door for you. Make the best of it by following these tips and techniques.
